Perxeive - A personal journey to enhanced skills

Developing Perxeive continues to significantly expand my existing skills and experience of building successful, technology enabled businesses. By acquiring deep, first hand expertise of generative AI and a range of the latest full-stack technologies, I am better equipped than ever to lead businesses.

If you are looking for an experienced leader for a business contact me:

"Perxeive was born out of a desire to develop hands-on experience of the technologies driving the businesses I had been building…"

"...and the best way to learn any techonology is to build something. Perxeive resulted from the determination to build something useful, innovative and challenging."

Who

Dave Clarke

I build businesses, both as independent startups and within large corporations. I have a wealth of experience leading businesses through strategy formulation, customer discovery, achieving product/market fit and then scaling businesses commercially and internationally.

I have always had a passion for technology. That started out with electronics as a hobby (I was a subscriber to Electronics Today International from age 9) but it really blossomed when home computing arrived. I first started coding in BASIC on a Sinclair ZX81, as pictured at the top of the page, before upgrading to the BBC Micro Model B. I was an early adopter of the internet in the pre-browser days when FTP and Usenet were the leading edge. I vividly recall the excitement when the MOSAIC browser was released. Throughout my career I have sought out roles that have enabled me to combine my passion for technology with my innate drive to build businesses.

In recent years years I felt a growing need and desire to reconnect hands-on with the technologies that were critical to the success of the businesses I had been leading. In May of 2020, with London locked down and with the COVID-19 pandemic as a backdrop, the opportunity arose to fully immerse myself in learning by writing code. Perxeive is the result of being to determined for that process to have a tangible outcome.

Biography

I started my career at O'Connor & Associates, a boutique trading firm that pioneered the application of data and technology to the trading of derivatives. Having worked on the build out of a number of investment bank’s FX Option trading desks, I co-founded dVega Limited in 1998, a fintech that developed derivative pricing algorithms. I sold the company to GFI Inc in 2003.

I gained invaluable experience as a board member and Chief Commercial Officer of a leading fintech, FENICS Software Limited, that we sold to GFI Inc in 2001. After building the Private Client FX business at Merrill Lynch, I co-founded Technology for Markets Limited. That ultimately led to my being recruited by the company’s largest customer, Deutsche Bank, to lead the early stage, high growth businesses in its market leading foreign exchange business. This included growing the dbfx margin FX business and selling it to Gain Capital in 2011. I later led the build of Deutsche Bank’s highly successful FX4Cash business, a highly profitable cross border payments business.

After a brief spell working in an early stage adtech startup, I spent time at Goldman Sachs, leading one of the firm’s business builds.

Why & What

Objectives

The key objectives in building Perxieve were to:

  • Provide utility by solving an important problem from which a large percentage of people could benefit.
  • Deliver a solution that is innovative and solves the problem in a way that is substantially different to previous solutions.
  • Create a solution that is easy to use and for which there are no technical barriers to adoption.
  • Enable the solution to be used when and where it is needed by delivering it via mobile devices.
  • Uphold the highest standards in privacy by avoiding the collection of any user data other than that which is strictly necessary.
  • Maximise the challenge by requiring the components of the solution to use a wide variety of different technologies that would be technically stretching.

Perxeive delivers against these objectives and it is our hope that a large number of people benefit from using it. Although the app is initially only available on Apple products, if the demand exists, an Android version will follow.
